Daily Devotional Rev. Johnnie Flakes,III - January 26, 2009
Good morning, Our devotion for today comes from Exodus 3:2-3 "And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt." Wherever you are today, meditate on this; the word meditation can be interpreted in a number of ways especially in the secular world. For the Christian, however, meditation should involve lifting one's heart heavenward. This state of God focused solitude should be just that: God focused. Meditation should begin with a quiet spirit and an expectant heart. We should seek God purposefully and with consideration allowing Him the opportunity to respond to our needs and inquiries. Why is meditation so important in the life of the believer? Meditation encourages holiness in our hearts. In quiet submission, God can speak to us directly enlightening His true character and providing insights to guide and direct us. Meditation leads to contentment. Spending time alone with God will bring peace and renewal to our spirits. Our burdens and cares must be placed prayerfully in His hands daily. Meditation should incorporate time to mentally release anxiety and to exchange it for God's peace. Meditation can help us realize the needs of others. As you lift up your own needs, begin to pray for those around you at work, at home, and in your church and ask God to enlighten their individual needs. Helping someone else could be as simple as a phone call, a card, or a kind word of encouragement. Make time in your schedule today to meditate in reverance to God. Have a blessed meditation day!
