Daily Devotional Rev. Johnnie Flakes,III - October 27, 2009

Good morning,

Our devotion for today comes from Hebrews 4:15 "For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin."

Whereever you are today, meditate on this; problems (that are difficult for others to understand) arise in every person's life.  Do you ever wish someone knew the questions which plague your innermost being and knew, really understood, how deep and real are your hurts?  Hebrews 4:15-16 is comforting in its assertions that, "we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.  Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need."

Jesus not only knows exactly what it is like to be you, but He is perfect in His comfort towards you.  Having experienced your pains, He is uniquely qualified to intercede for you to the Father.  Matthew Henry writes, "He is not only a great, but a gracious high priest, merciful, compassionate, and sympathizing with His people, He is touched with the feeling of our infirmities in such a manner as none else can be; or He was Himself tried with all the afflictions and troubles that are incident to our nature in its fallen state: and this not only that He might be able to satisfy for us, but to sympathize with us."

You are truly known by Christ.  He understands and He is perfectly positioned to comfort you in all of our needs and struggles.  So be encouraged today that you will never have to be alone in your sufferings.

Have a blessed peaceful day!

Your brother in Christ,

J. H. Flakes, III
