Daily Devotional Rev. Johnnie Flakes,III - December 16, 2009

Good morning,

Our devotion for today comes from Matthew 1:21 "And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins."

Wherever you are today, meditate on this; what is the most meaningful gift you have ever received?  Chances are you can recall a gift from a friend or loved one that remains dear to your heart.  Most likely its worth stemmed more from its emotional impact than its monetary value.  Before you were born, God gave you the greatest gift you will ever receive.  He sent His Son to live briefly and to suffer greatly in this sinful world.  Through the life and sacrificial death of Jesus, the gift of eternal life is available to all who believe.

At Christmas we are reminded of Jesus humble entrance into a world in need of a Savior.  His birth in a Bethlehem manger fulfilled a 700 year old prophecy and drew a crowd of kings and angels.  Through the gift of His Son Jesus, God established a new covenant with His people that endures to the present day.

The Bible gives us two names for the Son of God:  Jesus ("salvation is of God") and Immanuel ("God is with us").  God is with you today and He wants you to spend eternity experiencing His love.  Will you accept the gift of salvation He has waiting for you?

If you already know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, rejoice!  Celebrate with the assurance of God's unending love.  Give thanks for the promise that was fulfilled with your life in mind on a quiet night beneath the stars more than 2000 years ago.  Have a bless rejoiceful day!

Your brother in Christ,

J. H. Flakes, III
